This poster will be displayed in conjunction with the HIMSS20 Career Expo. Posters will be available for viewing through the entirety of the event. Poster presenters will be available for questions from 12:00 pm -1:00 pm.

In this poster utilizing a Human Centered Design (HCD) Approach, an informatics framework that emphasizes participation of technology users in the design process, I will present the design of an mhealth based application for adolescents to reduce media induced arousal. I will present information on three phases of work: (Phase 1) Characterize adolescents and parents perspectives of technology based solution to reduce media induced arousal, (Phase 2) user centered design with adolescents and (Phase 3) usability testing with adolescents.

In phase 1 I explore how adolescents with media use and their parents understand mindfulness and the current barriers and facilitators that exist to utilizing mindfulness approaches. Including the acceptability of a MBI based mhealth app to reduce arousal and increase self-regulation.
In phase 2 I will conduct participatory design sessions with adolescents with increased media use and sleep problems. These design sessions will provide the desired functionalities of a mindfulness-based app for adolescents. Learnings from this phase will be utilized to develop a prototype of the mhealth application.
In phase 3 I will conduct usability testing of a low fidelity prototype developed using learnings from Phase 1 and Phase 2 with adolescents to further elicit feedback on an mhealth application and refine the prototype. Learnings from this phase will help further refine the prototype and propose design recommendations for a mindfulness based mhealth application to help adolescents reduce media induced arousal and help mitigate sleep problems
