Dr. Donald Levick and Shannon Fenstermacher, PharmD, will present an overview of the work being done at Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) on targeted clinical decision support and pharmacogenomics. They will review LVHN's participation in a national pharmacogenomics pilot with the ONC; and the collaboration with a vendor to develop the content and workflows associated with implementation of drug-gene pair decision support, including the interface of discrete genomic data into the EMR. They will discuss the implementation of specific medication alerts that provide context sensitive information to the ordering provider to ensure the most efficient and accurate decisions are made. The discussion will include a review of the change management and cultural issues associated with implementation of such advanced CDS, and the strategy and tactics utilized to build interest and acceptance of the providers.
