This presentation will focus on finding the optimal intersection of viability, feasibility, and sustainability in designing technology for the patient experience within a large academic medical center. Approaches to overcoming barriers to design in the health technology space will be discussed. We will shed light on the unique opportunities and challenges of designing user-centered technology, while integrating with EHRs, and highlight the importance of gathering user research data early and often during the innovation life cycle. Topics covered will include design thinking, navigating digital health, building a multi-disciplinary team, working with executive leadership and stakeholders, and approaches to bringing it all together to design, develop, and implement digital health tools grounded in patient experience and data-driven insights.
