Most clinicians still rely on old school artificial intelligence to guide their decisions and have yet to embrace advances in machine learning to sharpen their diagnostic and therapeutic skills. Our presentation will focus on new developments in image analysis, predictive analytics, and neural networking as they apply to medical specialties including cardiology, dermatology, gastroenterology, oncology, endocrinology, and critical care medicine. While today’s clinical decision support systems can help detect drug interactions or compile a differential diagnosis list, machine learning is ushering in a generation of new school digital tools that can do so much more to address challenges in four critical areas of practice: prognosis, diagnosis, treatment, and clinical workflow. This presentation will touch on new AI and machine learning initiatives that are being developed at the Mayo Clinic.
