About:
Hospitals have a history of being a test bed for communication technologies. From the first paging system in the 1950s to the more recent adoption of smartphones, connecting the right people and information quickly has always been critical to ensuring quality care and patient safety. Yet, despite advancements in technology, many hospitals continue using antiquated paging systems. Award-winning research conducted by Island Health in Canada proves that a secure and integrated smartphone app improves clinical communication and workflows. Use of the smartphone technology also resulted in physicians reporting a significant reduction in interruptions during patient care. This session will discuss study findings and demonstrate how implementing a smartphone solution into clinical practice significantly improved physician response times, increased efficiency and transformed care team communication.
