New solution leverages IoT-enabled devices to enable small hospitals, outpatient services and pharmacies to monitor temperature, humidity and other conditions critical to safe care in an affordable and simple manner

WALTHAM, Mass., February 15, 2018 — STANLEY Healthcare, a market leading provider of visibility and analytics solutions for the healthcare industry, today announced a new cloud-based solution for monitoring conditions in the environment of care. The STANLEY Healthcare IoT platform* integrates smart sensors over a cloud-based network to enable small hospitals, outpatient service providers, pharmacies and other organizations to easily monitor cold storage and other aspects of their operations that must be maintained at specific conditions for safe patient care.

“With this IoT platform, we saw an opportunity to make our expertise in real-time monitoring available to a wider range of healthcare organizations,” said Gabi Daniely, Vice President of Product Strategy & Business Development, STANLEY Healthcare. “Monitoring different aspects of the environment of care is a requirement for many organizations along the care continuum, including critical access hospitals, outpatient service providers, physician groups, laboratories and pharmacies. Whether it’s storage conditions for pharmaceuticals or vaccines, differential pressure for isolation rooms or Compound Sterile Preparations (CSP), monitoring the status of CO tanks, or any of a number of other applications, these organizations need to monitor and record conditions on a regular basis. The IoT platform lets them do that easily and affordably.”

The IoT platform was developed based on STANLEY Healthcare’s extensive experience with monitoring applications in healthcare; the company’s AeroScout® Real-time Location System is a leading solution for Environmental Monitoring in hospitals. The new platform combines features and services essential to the unique requirements of healthcare monitoring:

  • Designed for healthcare: The IoT platform is specifically made for healthcare applications, with measurement, notification and reporting options that support compliance. Calibration services are also available to recognized standards, such as those of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST);
  • Cost effective: The IoT platform offers a low total cost of ownership with minimal setup costs and a tiered monthly subscription. Healthcare organizations can immediately realize efficiency savings and avoid costly events such as the loss of items in a malfunctioning refrigeration unit;
  • Flexible and scalable: The platform is an effective solution for a wide range of organizations and many different monitoring needs. It supports multiple sensors and is scalable to cover everything from a handful of devices in one location to thousands of devices across multiple sites;
  • Secure: STANLEY Healthcare employs best-in-class cloud services to ensure maximum data security, with High Availability and multi-tenant capabilities. In addition, STANLEY Healthcare monitors the platform to proactively address issues;
  • Easy to implement and use: Setup and configuration of the solution is straightforward, and can be done by the customer or with the assistance of STANLEY Healthcare’s authorized partners. For users, the mobile application has all the necessary tools to monitor and respond to events, including documenting corrective action.

The platform combines IoT-enabled sensors with a mobile application to receive alerts, see the status of devices and create compliance reports. A web-based Cloud Manager enables administrators to manage users and environments across multiple locations. The initial offering of the platform will support a range of temperature and humidity sensors, with differential pressure sensors and a contact closure device available shortly.

The IoT platform along with STANLEY Healthcare’s other visibility, analytics and patient safety solutions will be on view at the HIMSS Annual Conference & Exhibition in Las Vegas, Nevada, March 5-9, 2018. Find STANLEY Healthcare at booth # 2243 and in the Interoperability Showcase.

STANLEY Healthcare integrates Sonitor®’s Sense™ High Definition Ultrasound Indoor Positioning technology for room & sub-room level location accuracy, to enable more rapid and cost-effective deployment of advanced RTLS use cases

WALTHAM, Mass., February 27, 2018 — STANLEY Healthcare, a market leading provider of visibility and analytics solutions for the healthcare industry, today announced that it is integrating Sonitor’s proprietary Sense High Definition Ultrasound indoor positioning technology into its AeroScout® Real-Time Location System (RTLS) platform. The expanded partnership with Sonitor will enable hospitals to implement RTLS solutions at a lower total cost of ownership and with greater ease and less complexity.

“The key value delivered by RTLS solutions is the detailed information they generate on the interactions of patients, staff and assets as they move about the hospital. These data give hospitals unique insight into complex care processes, driving improved care delivery, streamlined workflows and cost savings. This insight depends on the ability to locate accurately and reliably at the room and sub-room level,” said Gabi Daniely, Vice President of Product Strategy & Business Development, STANLEY Healthcare. “With this technology, hospitals can more quickly and easily adopt advanced RTLS applications such as Patient Flow, Staff Workflow and PAR level Asset Management. The result is an even more compelling ROI for RTLS solutions.”

The integrated solution achieves precise room or sub-room level accuracy in complex indoor environments. Ultrasound provides a number of benefits relative to other kinds of room/sub-room level infrastructure:

  • Cost effective: A single location transmitter can create up to 4 unique zones, reducing the number of required devices. Devices can be wireless to reduce cabling costs and be powered by 4 standard D cell alkaline batteries offering 3-5 years of battery life. Alternatively, customers can choose to power the device with PoE (Power over Ethernet);
  • Easy deployment: Location transmitters attach to ceiling tiles via simple grid clips, with no cabling required, thus eliminating the disruption, expense and complexity created by hard-wiring. Entire hospital units can be installed, adjusted and configured in a matter of hours;
  • Scalable: Devices can be added or relocated quickly and easily without disruption to patient care. Once deployed, additional use cases can be added with little to no increase in infrastructure required;
  • Highly reliable: Ultrasound delivers high room or sub-room location accuracy in a variety of environments, and performance is not affected by glass, ambient light or other factors.

The new solution has been deployed at OHSU Hospital in Portland, OR, a longtime STANLEY Healthcare customer. The successful pilot for management of sequential compression devices gives the hospital visibility to the location of devices in clean/soiled utility rooms, storage rooms and a decontamination room, and enables the hospital to adopt a PAR level approach to management of the devices.

“We are pleased to be building on our long-term partnership with STANLEY Healthcare,” said Anne Bugge, President and CEO of Sonitor Technologies, Inc. “The market for indoor positioning and real-time applications in healthcare is evolving rapidly, with hospitals demanding greater performance at lower total cost of ownership. Ultrasound is a proven technology for indoor positioning and the unique properties of ultrasound allow it to be a highly accurate and cost-effective solution for healthcare.
As a result of its unique properties, ultrasound also lends itself to further innovation for applications, delivering significant value and benefits to patients and caregivers.” The agreement between Sonitor and STANLEY Healthcare ensures that new technology innovations from Sonitor will also be available to STANELY Healthcare’s customers.

The integration between the AeroScout solution and Sonitor’s ultrasound technology will be on view at the HIMSS Annual Conference & Exhibition in Las Vegas, Nevada, March 5-9, 2018. Find STANLEY Healthcare at booth #2243 and in the Interoperability Showcase, and Sonitor at booth #7213.
