HIMSS17 TOOK PLACE IN ORLANDO, FL

A Mainstream, Electronic Approach to Tracking Immunizations

HIMSS17 offers programs and conversations on the Immunization Integration Program

by: Thomas M. Leary, MALA, CAE, FHIMSS, Vice President, Government Relations, HIMSS North America

The advantage of digital health information extends to immunizations…Digital health records put patient health data at patients’ and clinicians’ fingertips to better manage personal and population health. Immunization records belong in the electronic health record.

Now, three organizations working together - CNI Advantage, HIMSS, and ICSA Labs, invite health IT vendors to test their immunization-capable products through the Immunization Integration Program [IIP], supported by CDC. Participation is free of charge.

“Immunization records are a vital component of a child’s digital medical record and belong in health IT systems used by healthcare providers across the country,” said Joyce Sensmeier, MS, RN-BC, CPHIMS, FHIMSS, FAAN, in a recent news release. She is vice president, informatics, HIMSS North America. “The decisions made now to integrate immunization records to health IT systems will help saves lives and improve health for many generations. This testing program is the first step to achieve this outcome.”
