IBM Chairman, President & CEO Ginni Rometty Opens HIMSS17

Ginni Rometty, chairman, president and CEO of IBM, comes to the stage as the opening keynote on Monday, Feb. 20, at the 2017 HIMSS Conference & Exhibition in Orlando, Fla. As the largest health IT conference in North America, HIMSS17, from Feb. 19-23, brings together more than 43,000 attendees and 1,200 exhibitors at this event where the brightest minds in health and IT meet.

Presentation at HIMSS17: Rometty will discuss Cognitive Systems and the Future of Healthcare, focusing on how data, analytics and cognitive computing are transforming healthcare and revolutionizing personalized medicine. She will describe how such cognitive systems are changing the face of healthcare.

As described in Rometty’s presentation abstract, “Data has become the world’s most valuable new natural resource, transforming industries and society at an unprecedented pace. This transformation is nowhere more evident than in medicine and healthcare. It is being fueled by the infusion of technology and intelligence into all products and processes, the proliferation of mobile devices and social media, and heightened expectations from digitally empowered individuals. Importantly, a new class of cognitive systems is augmenting human capacity to understand – and constructively intervene into our complex healthcare systems and accelerating the advance of evidence-based, personalized medicine.”

Cognitive computing is a topic of interest to so much of our healthcare community, especially attendees at HIMSS17. I am honored to welcome Ginni Rometty as our opening keynote, who will share her insights on this topic and much more. New and innovative approaches to fulfilling our HIMSS vision of improving health and healthcare with the best use of IT are vital to the future of healthcare, and I look forward to learning more during this opening session
