As Chief Privacy Officer at Baptist Health South Florida, Mercy oversees the Baptist Health Privacy Program that supports six hospitals, region-wide outpatient facilities, the Baptist Health Medical Group, the Baptist Health Quality Network and the employer sponsored group health plan. She transformed the BHSF Privacy program to meet the evolving challenges and complexities related to the management of protected health information. With new regulations, technology and data-sharing initiatives reshaping the healthcare landscape, Mercy has strategically worked towards embedding privacy principles into key business functions to both ensure compliance and meet key business objectives. Mercy has lead several initiatives to hard-wire privacy into the fabric of the Baptist Health service culture. These initiatives include creative education programs such as the “Jump on the HIPAA Omni-Bus” campaign to provide organization-wide education in 2013 in response to the HIPAA Omnibus regulatory changes. During the past 28 years she has held senior leadership position in Human Resources, has served as a member of several operational executive teams and is currently serving as the Assistant Vice President/Chief Privacy Officer for Baptist Health South Florida.
