Melisa holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, as well as a Master of Science in Nursing, from the University of British Columbia. She also holds a specialty certificate in High Acuity Nursing from the British Columbia Institute of Technology.
Melisa has taught in the baccalaureate nursing programs at Kwantlen Polytechnic University and Langara College as both a professor and a clinical instructor. She served as a Regional Medicine Clinical Nurse Educator from 2013 to 2015, providing education to nurses, allied health staff, and physicians to 12 acute care hospitals across BC.
Melisa has over 11 years of clinical experience providing direct patient care in the areas of Critical Care, Vascular Surgery, and Older Adult.
Working in the program of Health Informatics, in the department of Advanced Clinical Systems (Acute), Melisa has combined her educator experience, clinical knowledge, and passion for learning, to contribute to advancing Health Informatics’ practice in FHA. Along with her colleague, Ricki Prestley, Melisa embarked in a research project to examine current processes of orientation and professional development in their department.
