The electronic medical record (EMR) can be a powerful tool to drive practice to improve patient outcomes. However it takes innovative thinking to integrate the scientific evidence into the EMR workflows. A Nurse Informaticst working collaboratively with the clinical subject matter experts, information system analysts and performance improvement professionals can have a powerful impact on analysis, design, and implementation of tools to drive improved patient outcomes and decrease mortality.
