Off the Hook: Decreasing Medication Workflow Distractions through Use of Native EHR Messaging

A single interruption increases risk for error by 12.5%. Over one shift, 88% of phone calls logged by pharmacy were non-emergent. Utilizing existing tools, scripting, and workflow redirection we were able to reduce non-emergent calls to 41%. As a bonus, nursing satisfaction with pharmacy responsiveness to medication requests increased significantly.
