There is increasing demand for hospitals, health systems and insurers to factor spatial methods into their decision-making processes for both population health needs and clinical care needs. Spatial analysis and GIS improve understanding of patterns and trends in data, identifying the most pressing health issues and formulating targeted intervention strategies that conserve limited resources. Two leaders from well-known hospital systems will explain their current workflows and use cases in GIS that track with current trends related to analytics, patient engagement, empowerment and community outreach, as well as system integration and interoperability. This session will provide real-world examples of how geography can provide context and value to existing patient data to facilitate action and uncover relationships and patterns that traditional healthcare IT systems can’t detect.
