Faced with a need to identify clinical opportunities to reduce length of stay, Hawai‘i Pacific Health chose improvements in glycemic control as a likely target. Although most published strategies are around reduction in hypoglycemia, our interest was in improving the normoglycemia rates for our insulin dependent patients. We implemented changes in the EHR, integrated our glucometers and implemented a lot of workflow improvements that did result in improved length of stay for this patient population. There were many lessons learned along the way which will be shared during this session.
