Description

Spurred on by the Meaningful Use program, healthcare IT (HIT) has emerged as a significant budgetary expense in healthcare organizations. While most HIT budgetary conversations tend to focus on capital-related costs, HIT workforce expenses are no less significant. Of lesser consideration have been the gender compensation disparity experiences within the HIT workforce. This session explores the gender compensation disparities in the HIT workforce based on 10 years of data from the HIMSS Compensation Survey. The session highlights encouraging variances in the disparities and addresses opportunities for ensuring equity in our HIT workforce recruitment and retention efforts.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the historical compensation disparities between male and female health IT workers as evidenced in the HIMSS Compensation Survey findings
  • Identify organizational conditions in which gender disparities tend to diminish
