Emergency Room to Living Room: Guiding Patients to Care

Louisiana has among the highest emergency department utilization rates in the nation, particularly among its Medicaid patient population. In response, the Louisiana Health Care Quality Forum launched an ED registry through its statewide HIE that has yielded significant improvements in non-emergent ED utilization among the state's Medicaid patients. This presentation will demonstrate the lessons learned from this approach and feature the results of UnitedHealthcare Community Health Plan of Louisiana, one of the state's five Managed Care Organizations.
