Connected Care: Enhancing Veteran Access and Experience

February 21, 2017 — 02:30PM EST - 03:30PM EST
Orange County Convention Center
Hall F3
Session ID:
135

Description

In 2003, VA launched its first patient health portal to better equip veterans with the health information they need to live healthier lives. Since then, VA’s patient engagement strategy has continuously evolved to meet the changing needs of veterans, providers and the healthcare system. VA’s digital health strategy is clear: increase access, information sharing, communication, coordination, efficiency, quality, safety and patient-centeredness. VA has learned how veterans want to access information and communicate with their care team, what the drivers for technology adoption really are and how changing patient demographics drive health systems to further integrate their digital strategy with in-person care. This session will look beyond the technologies; e.g., e-visits, mobile apps, kiosks and My HealtheVet, and discuss what worked, what didn’t and what we’ve learned. If you’ve wondered, “How do I scale these technologies across my system?”, this session is for you.

Learning Objectives:

  • Distinguish the attributes that make up a sound digital strategy across a health enterprise
  • Identify pitfalls and opportunities when looking for provider and patient technology adoption
  • Explore data on how patients respond to accessing information in their EHR (ex: open notes)
  • Apply best practices in scaling digital technologies across a health system
  • Plan for multi-device, multi-points of access for patients and healthcare teams
