Early-Detection Pediatric Sepsis Algorithm

10:00am - 11:00am Tuesday, March 6

Location & Room

Las Vegas - Venetian Convention Center
Palazzo D
About:
Sepsis and septic shock remain common causes of morbidity and mortality in children. This session will discuss how they investigated the use of electronic health record data to proactively identify potentially septic children. The approach used to define the early-detection pediatric sepsis (PS) algorithm was to combine the logical structure of a successful adult sepsis algorithm with clinical criteria consistent with the PS consensus definition of Goldstein et al. Multiple algorithm variations were retrospectively tested against a clinically-validated gold standard, and the one with the best overall performance under the constraint of early detection was implemented.
