The Interoperability Showcase
Imagine – patient health information exchanged seamlessly across and throughout the healthcare enterprise and national and even global healthcare networks. You don’t have to imagine because this is not a future vision, it is available today.

The HIMSS09 Interoperability Showcase is the place to see state-of-the-art interactive demonstrations showing how applications share patient data across a range of healthcare settings.

Experience interactive demonstrations of health information exchange including nationwide health information networks (NHIN), small ambulatory clinics, hospitals or IDNs, or exchanging military health records worldwide. See where industry deployments stand today with adoption of frameworks and coordination of standards to support the innovations that are having a positive impact.

Many Stories – One Big Showcase
More than 70 clinical information systems will come together in the 2009 Interoperability Showcase configured in multiple HIMSS Health Information Exchanges (HIEs), where patient health information is exchanged electronically – from application to application, system to system, and setting to setting – across multiple healthcare enterprises, securely and accurately.

Clinical scenarios with enhanced privacy and security will be enabled by the standards-based Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) framework. The demonstration will leverage Healthcare Information Technology Standards Panel (HITSP) Interoperability Specifications, which use standards and IHE Profiles to build this secured, electronic network. Attendees visiting the Showcase will experience a live demonstration that will help them envision how stakeholders from across the healthcare environment are working together to implement health information exchanges.

The two large Interoperability Showcase theaters and other presentation areas will offer educational sessions on IHE and HIE activities, federal agency interoperability initiatives, and standards development programs.
