Over the next few years, the U.S. healthcare industry is expected to spend $16 billion dollars on new construction projects. Due to demographic trends and regulatory mandates, the need for new facilities can only continue to grow. With it comes the opportunity to re-think how the design of a hospital can lead to better patient care. It opens the door to important questions like:
Palomar Pomerado Health (PPH) is on the forefront of answering each of these questions. In the Keynote Session, Michael H. Covert, the President and CEO of Palomar Pomerado Health will discuss how his organization is redesigning healthcare to foster a high-performance healing environment. Clearly, the effective integration of technology is a key enabler. He will discuss the design process, along with PPH's specific plans for the new $1B "Hospital of the Future" scheduled for completion in 2011.
At the conclusion, he will unveil how Cisco and PPH have worked together to create a virtual "Hospital of the Future" simulator that is the very first of its kind for U.S. hospitals. Whether your hospital is embarking on its own construction project, or whether you're simply interested in the latest thinking about care delivery, this session is for you!

Social networks are redefining relationships within health care communities in unanticipated and previously unimaginable ways. Web 2.0 tools – like blogs, wikis, podcasts, user-generated video and specialized search – are generating a fundamental shift away from the traditional flow of information as defined by payers, physicians, hospital systems, and suppliers. It is clear that we are at the start of a significant shift in demand from both consumers and providers for better information and easier ways to share experiences. But how will this combination of new technologies and new business models play out? Will Health 2.0 grow into an independent industry sector, be subsumed into the current healthcare system, or create a new hybrid landscape? What is Health2.0 and how do health care organizations need to react to it?
3:25 - 3:30 pm
