Health Information Exchange

According to a Bipartisan Policy Center Health Information Technology Initiative survey, new accountable, patient-centered care models will require a seamless and safe exchange of information. That same survey reported that 70 percent of clinicians felt that the lack of and costs associated with interoperability and an HIE infrastructure were the major barriers to EHR sharing. HIMSS, recognizing that the HIE landscape will continue to change, has focused initiatives on state, local and regional public/private networks. HIMSS13 takes HIE to new levels. In this year’s Interoperability Showcase, experience how a personal health record moves across multiple points of care and, for the first time, earn continuing education hours while doing so. Knowledge sharing continues throughout HIMSS13 as a symposium, roundtable and nearly 20 more general education sessions explore sustainable patient record exchange. HIMSS13 is the right place for finding exactly the Health Information Exchange knowledge and know-how you need – right now.

HIE Symposium

This symposium reviews HIEs that have progressed post-HITECH and how HIE overlaps with national, state and local healthcare initiatives.  Attendees will explore the landscape of private/public HIEs in the market and assess HIE value.
