Blaine Kern's Mardi Gras World
Featuring Grammy- and Tony Award-Nominated Artist, Michael Cavanaugh
HIMSS is having a Mardi Gras party and you’re invited! It wouldn’t be Carnival without a parade, and there’s no better place to experience Carnival magic than with a behind-the-scenes tour of Blaine Kern's Mardi Gras World studios. Since 1947, this has been the world’s leading maker of floats, sculptures and props for most of New Orleans' parades. While you marvel at the skill and technology that animate the mega-floats and gain new appreciation for the history and traditions of Carnival, enjoy the view — Mardi Gras World is right on the Mississippi!
No party is complete without entertainment, and you're in for a treat. When singer Michael Cavanaugh performs, he blends his own songs, classic rock 'n' roll favorites and Billy Joel hits. Hand-picked by Joel to create the original lead of the Piano Man in Broadway’s Movin' Out, Cavanaugh earned Tony and Grammy nominations for the role. He’s currently touring symphony orchestras with his all-star band in a salute to Billy Joel and working on a concert tribute to the music of Elton John. You'll love this talented and versatile performer!
Light food and refreshments provided. Transportation will be provided from the selected designated HIMSS hotels. You must be 21 to enter the event.
Fee: $60
