Press Releases

MEDITECH recently hosted its 15th annual Nurse and Home Care Forum, an event focused on helping clinicians to juggle mounting responsibilities while also strengthening patient/provider relationships.

Noting that nurses observe some 60,000 data points during a typical shift, MEDITECH AVP Cathy Turner explained MEDITECH’s commitment to building solutions that allow patient information to be shared quickly and securely across the continuum of care. She emphasized that the best technologies are those that enable nurses to place patients at the center of care.

“Before we learn how to treat the patient, we learn that what we do is all about the patient — which means making sure we’re caring for the mind, body, and spirit,” said Turner. “That really is the essence of the continuum of care, supporting the patient regardless of where they are in their lives.”

In her opening remarks, Valley Hospital’s VP of Patient Care Services Ann Marie Leichman observed that nurses are in a position to take on important leading roles in the years ahead, adding that nurse practitioners in particular are poised to become “the primary care providers of the future.”

Keynote speaker Judy Murphy, CNO for IBM Global Healthcare, shared her perspectives on the trends in healthcare and how nurses can play a central role in empowering their communities. By forming ongoing partnerships with their patients, Murphy explained, nurses can help change the culture of episodic care and encourage patients to take control of their overall health.

Attendees were also encouraged to network and explore new leadership opportunities in the coming year. Rebecca Love, director of Nurse Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Northeastern University, stressed that nurses are natural innovators and problem solvers — and that they should use their experience to help inform the next generation of medical technologies.

(Westwood, Mass.) — In what some are calling the biggest technological advancement in the hospital’s history, Canada’s Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care (Waypoint) is now LIVE with MEDITECH’s 6.1 Electronic Health Record (EHR). After an extensive procurement process that involved hundreds of staff and stakeholders evaluating EHR options, the 301-bed psychiatric hospital located in Penetanguishene, Ontario, partnered with Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences (Ontario Shores) in Whitby to implement MEDITECH’s fully-integrated EHR.

“Clinicians, clinical information and IT managers, and other staff agreed MEDITECH had the mental health functional tools, support, and experience required to meet our unique needs,” Vice-President of Corporate Services at Waypoint, Lorraine Smith said. “The ability to integrate and support various Ministry and healthcare reporting requirements were also factors in the final decision.”

Partnership with Ontario Shores

As MEDITECH was already utilized in Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences, it paved the way for a future partnership between the two hospitals to launch the 6.1 platform.

“Ontario Shores and Waypoint are proud of our partnership and the shared health information system we have developed together," John Chen, Vice-President, Finance and Support Services at Ontario Shores said. "Through the MEDITECH system, we have been able to maximize the technology to develop and implement common clinical standards and evidence-based practices which leads to enhanced patient outcomes.”

Ontario Shores made significant enhancements to patient care and hospital operations with the introduction of the MEDITECH 6.0 platform back in 2009.

“The goal of an EHR and a partnership with Ontario Shores in particular, was to enhance and standardize clinical care, and advance research using the shared MEDITECH system and a single, shared database,” Waypoint Vice-President of Quality and Practice, Linda Adams said. “Setting a vision to ‘use today’s technology to improve quality and safety for patients and staff through a collaborative and interactive experience’ helped us keep an eye on what we wanted to accomplish with this transformation.”

To ensure effective and efficient use of resources in alignment with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care’s Health Information System (HIS) Renewal Strategy, Waypoint teamed up with Ontario Shores to form an HIS partnership with MEDITECH. Ontario Shores was the first hospital in Canada and the first mental health hospital in the world to receive the prestigious HIMSS EMRAM Stage 7 award for having a completely paperless health information system.

“Our partnership with Ontario Shores and the support from MEDITECH was instrumental in the transition we had to the new system. We can’t thank them enough,” Waypoint President and CEO, Carol Lambie said. “Waypoint is excited about the many opportunities that an EHR brings to the field of mental health research. Using this technology will help improve patient outcomes, ensure our healthcare professionals have the most up-to-date and accurate information all in one place, and improve communication among doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and the rest of the care team; all helping us deliver even safer care.”

Go-LIVE a Success

Waypoint took a phased approach to implementation starting in Nov. 2015 and culminating with both inpatient and outpatient programs being LIVE by May 2017.

“MEDITECH’s launch at Waypoint was completed in three phases in each of the three clinical divisions, and thanks to a great team and the commitment of our front-line staff, we have had a smooth transition,” Director of Clinical Informatics at Waypoint, Jeannie Borg said. “Our Regional programs were the first to go-LIVE in February and it only took days for staff to recognize the benefits of a paperless system, including more efficient readmission and documentation processes.”

“MEDITECH is committed to providing our customers the specialized tools that serve the unique needs of behavioral healthcare organizations,” Associate Vice President of Marketing at MEDITECH, Christine Parent said. “Waypoint and Ontario Shores are leading the way in delivering exemplary mental healthcare to patients, and we are proud to partner with these organizations by providing a robust and integrated EHR to improve the quality and efficiency of patient care.”

Serving customers in Canada since 1981, MEDITECH is the leading EHR vendor in the country with 589 facilities. The MEDITECH EHR is also installed in seven out of ten provinces as well as in two of three territories. For the third year in a row, MEDITECH was ranked in the Best in KLAS: Software & Services report. MEDITECH's 6.x platform received 2017 Best in KLAS for Community HIS and was also rated 2017 KLAS Category Leader for Patient Accounting & Patient Management (Community Hospital) and Global Acute Care EMR - Canada.

(Westwood, Mass.) — As part of their mission to "Elevate the Standard of Healthcare" in their community, Ohio Valley Surgical Hospital (OVSH) announced they will be implementing MEDITECH’s Web Acute Electronic Health Record (EHR) early next year. Located in Springfield, Ohio, the physician-owned, high volume and award-winning hospital was established to provide outstanding surgical and medical care in an environment of personalized service.

“At OVSH, our physicians, nurses and staff are dedicated to delivering high quality patient care,” Craig Terrell, CIO at OVSH said. “We asked all EHR vendors in the vetting process to answer these three questions: tell us what your system was like three years ago, tell us where it is today, and tell us where you’re going,” Terrell said. “MEDITECH was the only vendor to release products after ARRA—that’s huge. It tells us that MEDITECH is a partner that will continue to research, develop, and work with us to enhance our EHR over the years.”

MEDITECH’s one patient, one record strategy eliminates the extra documenting hospital staff does on paper. Currently at OVSH, data is entered multiple times in different systems, leading to duplicate data entry and a more time-consuming pre-registration, surgery, and discharge processes.

“We are really looking forward to streamlining our workflows,” Terrell said. “With MEDITECH, there will be no workarounds. The system is also customizable; it enables us to build the screens that work best for our organization.”

Automation with an electronic chart can help to alleviate human error, leading to safer patient care. This is why Ohio Valley Surgical Hospital found it important to invest in a solution and company that continues to innovate and transform healthcare.

“When we were evaluating EHRs, we ranked the key factors, including: price, implementation, ease of use for our physicians, accounting and revenue cycle. Clinical data integrity and flow carried the most weight, however, and the MEDITECH EHR was the way to go.”

MEDITECH has seen strong growth in new customer bookings over the past several quarters, and the company signed five new healthcare organizations representing 16 more hospitals in Q1 2017.

The innovative, physician-designed Web Electronic Health Record represents a major pivot for MEDITECH and the industry as a whole. Since its launch, over 130 healthcare organizations have signed for this latest release.

"MEDITECH has 47 years of experience in the healthcare industry, and to this day we're deeply committed to delivering solutions that can help physicians deliver the highest quality care to their patients," said Helen Waters, executive vice president of Sales and Marketing.

"We’ve channeled our experience, passion, and knowledge into building this next-generation EHR. The architecture, user interface, and depth of clinical sophistication have been taken to entirely new levels, and as a result, we are seeing a lot of excitement across the market."

New and existing MEDITECH clients are citing the system’s design, usability, integration, mobility, and cost as major deciding factors during their EHR product and vendor evaluation.

Some of MEDITECH's recent Web EHR signings include:

Appalachian Regional Healthcare (Lexington, KY)

After launching a complete evaluation of EHR solutions, Appalachian Regional announced their new partnership with MEDITECH. The large, not-for-profit, integrated delivery network that includes 11 hospitals will begin their shift to MEDITECH's transformative, mobile Web EHR later this year.

"We are excited to partner with MEDITECH for an innovative Web EHR that fosters and supports sustainability," said President and CEO Joe Grossman. "With the Web EHR, our clinicians will have seamless integration across the continuum, improved productivity, and sophisticated tools to improve the quality and safety of care delivered to our communities."

Southlake Regional Health Centre and Stevenson Memorial Hospital (Ontario, Canada)

As members of the Shared Health Information Network Exchange (SHINE) initiative, Southlake Regional Health Centre and Stevenson Memorial Hospital announced a collaboration with Markham Stouffville Hospital to integrate their Health Information System (HIS) and accelerate the adoption of MEDITECH's 6.1 Web EHR across all three organizations.

"MEDITECH brings a wealth of experience that helps solidify all three organizations through the same EHR platform," said Stevenson President and CEO Jody Levac.

"This particular project allows us to address the disparities that occur in small to rural hospitals. Many of our patients can't access specialists or consultants. A single EHR across the three institutions will allow our patients to get access to high-quality care that could never be possible without this type of partnership."

Howard County Medical Center (St. Paul, NE)

A customer since 2011, the Critical Access Hospital will be upgrading to MEDITECH's Web EHR. Physicians at Howard County were impressed with the platform's ease of use and integration.

"We value our physicians' opinions, and they played a significant role in the decision to move forward with MEDITECH's Web EHR,” said CEO Arlan Johnson. “Having access to data from anywhere in the medical center and on any smart device is really what caught everyone's attention.”

WESTWOOD, Mass. — MEDITECH, a Contributor Member of CommonWell Health Alliance, is set to offer CommonWell interoperability services in early 2018. The deployment will enable healthcare organizations to exchange patient information seamlessly for improved patient care and quality outcomes.

CommonWell Health Alliance was formed to develop and deploy a vendor-neutral platform that enables providers to accurately and securely access patients' data regardless of where care takes place. As a Contributor Member of the Alliance, MEDITECH has the opportunity to help steer the future direction of CommonWell and provide its clients access to services that go beyond one EHR system, one healthcare organization, and one community; enabling nationwide connectivity and interoperability.

"Advancing interoperability initiatives has always been a cornerstone of MEDITECH's healthcare IT vision," said Lawrence O'Toole, associate vice president of strategy at MEDITECH. "MEDITECH is proud to partner with CommonWell Health Alliance in providing our customers access to the CommonWell network, enabling faster and simpler exchange of protected health data across the care continuum."

Provider usability of CommonWell services is crucial, and MEDITECH is working closely with Alliance members to ensure its services will seamlessly weave into providers' and administrators' workflows. In addition, by leveraging its work with the Argonaut Project, MEDITECH will be among the first members in the Alliance to deploy the Argonaut Project's FHIR specifications to customers, including Find Document References and Retrieve Document resources, opening the door for more comprehensive sharing of discrete segments of data in the future.

In less than four years, CommonWell went from having seven founding members to more than 60 and growing. In December 2016, CommonWell and Carequality announced they will interoperate; the two organizations collectively represent more than 90 percent of the acute EHR market1 and nearly 60 percent of the ambulatory EHR market2. With connectivity across CommonWell and through the planned CommonWell connection with Carequality implementers, MEDITECH customers will be able to take advantage of expansive exchange avenues; avenues which greatly reduce the pressure and cost burdens to rip and replace systems that are providing benefit.

Today, CommonWell services are live at more than 5,000 provider sites in all 50 states, D.C. and Puerto Rico. Together, MEDITECH and vendors across the industry are breaking down barriers that have stood in the way of efficient data exchange and achieving cross-vendor interoperability.

"CommonWell is excited to work with MEDITECH and other members as we continue to strive towards a reality in which there are no gaps in access and availability of patient data," said Jitin Asnaani, executive director of CommonWell Health Alliance. "MEDITECH's intention to deploy our services will help ensure we move even closer to that reality."

Rural hospital in Southwest Georgia aims to provide superior quality of care to community with state-of-the-art EHR

"Across the board, clinicians and leadership at Colquitt Regional Medical Center are realizing care efficiencies and streamlined processes since going LIVE with MEDITECH's fully-integrated 6.1 Electronic Health Record (EHR) in the Summer of 2016. In addition, Colquitt Regional recently signed for MEDITECH's Web Ambulatory solution.

"With MEDITECH's integrated EHR, physicians are treating patients seamlessly across the continuum. Now that we're implementing Web Ambulatory, we'll be covering an even larger population of patients in our county and surrounding areas," Colquitt Regional Chief Information Officer, Bill Bishop said.

Located in Colquitt County in the town of Moultrie, Ga., the 151-bed medical center is known in the community for its dedication to providing exceptional and compassionate patient care to the approximately 15,600 residents in Moultrieand 40,100 in Colquitt County.

"We've noticed quicker access to patient information. Our ability to capture data from multiple points of care has greatly improved and in turn has improved the continuity of care," Chief Nursing Officer at Colquitt Regional, Dena Zinker said." Our EHR is fully-integrated and information is readily available from other departments—so now clinical staff and patients don't have to wait, resulting in higher patient satisfaction and more engagement at the patient's bedside."

There are multiple benefits to having an integrated EHR, from physicians to nurses to lab to business administration, data flows seamlessly between departments. In one year since go-LIVE, Accounts Receivable (AR) days have dropped from 46 to 41, and are expected to continue to drop. Colquitt Regional staff have also reported time savings for both discharge and admission processes, with the average door to provider wait time being less than 20 minutes. In addition, care providers have reported improved flow of information with safer care transitions.

"We looked at a lot of systems from high-end to lower end, I must admit that MEDITECH has delivered on all the promises they made. When I go back and track all the things that MEDITECH said they would do and what they actually delivered, I can put a checkmark alongside all of them," President and CEO at Colquitt Regional, Jim Matney said. "Our community of patients greatly benefit from this technology—the biggest patient advantage being the fact that there is one patient record. Patients may be seen in the acute setting and then follow up in the doctor's office or with home care services."

Colquitt Regional recently received an "A" Hospital Safety Score from the Leapfrog Group, naming them as one of the safest hospitals in the Nation for the sixth time in a row.

"Colquitt Regional's commitment to their patients and community is evident in the services they provide and the technology they invest in to deliver the best care possible," Associate Vice President of Marketing at MEDITECH, Christine Parent said. "MEDITECH is pleased to continue working with Colquitt Regional toward improved patient safety and a higher quality of care for the residents of Colquitt County."

Steward Health Care System announces eight additional hospitals will implement MEDITECH's Web-based Enterprise Health Record (EHR). The move to MEDITECH's Web EHR goes hand-in-hand with the health system's recent expansion to new states.

A MEDITECH customer for 19 years, the implementation of the Web EHR extends MEDITECH's presence within the Steward Health Care system to include Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Florida by 2018.

"Steward is committed to providing world class care in a more coordinated, efficient manner in the communities where our patients live," Steward Health Care System Chief Information Officer, Julie Berry said. "Expanding our MEDITECH EHR throughout the organization was a key component in moving us toward a more integrated healthcare delivery."

The decision to move forward with MEDITECH's new Web EHR is rooted in Steward's organizational philosophy of investing in the latest and highly innovative EHR as a monumental step to enhance patient care and safety. As an integrated, cost-effective accountable care organization and a physician led healthcare organization with a rapidly expanding physician network and 36 hospital campuses, MEDITECH's clinically sophisticated, highly-integrated EHR will help to progress their vision of equipping clinicians with the latest tools, workflows, and protocols for greater efficiency.

"It's exciting to be deploying solutions built for the web to aid in improving quality and population health, while continuing to drive costs down," Berry said. "Leveraging MEDITECH's innovative Web EHR to help navigate an ever-changing climate was a vital part of our decision to move forward with MEDITECH."

Building upon a successful platform and vendor relationship, Steward recognized MEDITECH as a trusted EHR source for the newly acquired eight sites. While Steward values its success with MEDITECH's legacy platforms, the multi-faceted health system was intrigued by the innovative technology and structure of the new web platform, and how it could help them achieve their various IT goals.

"MEDITECH is proud of our commitment to providing high-quality solutions that are rich in functionality and sophistication at a sustainable price," MEDITECH Executive Vice President, Helen Waters said. "MEDITECH values our long term relationship with Steward Health Care and we're pleased to have them continue to transform care across North America in the ambulatory and acute environment with MEDITECH's modern web solution."

Ohio healthcare system benefiting from the mobility, intuitiveness, and flexibility of MEDITECH's Web EHR across the entire continuum

Firelands Regional Medical Center (Sandusky, Ohio), has gone LIVE with MEDITECH's Web Enterprise Health Record (EHR). The contemporary EHR spans across the entire continuum, including clinical, ancillary, billing, patient portal, and more.

After evaluating its best of breed vendor approach, Firelands decided to move towards a one patient, one record strategy with MEDITECH's Web EHR to improve care coordination, also citing mobility, intuitiveness, and flexibility as deciding factors. The clinically-integrated EHR is unifying care teams across the 400-bed hospital, which is comprised of 250 physicians across 35 different specialties and over 2,100 hospital staff.

Firelands' physicians expect the MEDITECH implementation will continue to significantly improve care quality and patient engagement.

"The mobility of MEDITECH's Web EHR is having a transformational impact on how I deliver care, and is delivering a new paradigm in physicians' experience with EHRs," Patrick Tupa, DO, emergency physician at Firelands Regional Medical Center said. "I now have the ability to interact with patients one-on-one in the room with a tablet. Patients have been impressed and like to see technology working for them."

Additionally, Firelands has leveraged MEDITECH's integrated Oncology solution to centralize the tools physicians need to manage lengthy treatment plans and ensure safe, coordinated care. Firelands' oncologists are committed to helping guide future development efforts by leveraging user-centered design methodologies.

"Firelands really values key partnerships that enable us to improve the health of those we serve," Firelands Regional Medical Center Assistant Vice President of Operations, Denao Ruttino said. "When you have something like an EHR that is so ingrained across the organization, we find it critical to have an innovative, humble vendor partner that cares enough to listen to us and also nimble enough to deliver. From our perspective, MEDITECH delivers."

Firelands demonstrates a long-standing record as a nationally recognized hospital, with distinctions including Healthgrades 2017 Patient Safety Excellence Award™, Healthgrades America's 100 Best for Spine Surgery™ six years in a row (2013-2018), and America's 100 Best for Orthopedic Surgery™ two years in a row (2017-2018).

"Firelands is a progressive healthcare organization that is harnessing the value and power of the MEDITECH Web EHR to achieve optimal clinical outcomes," Helen Waters, executive vice president at MEDITECH said. "We are proud to be their long-time partner in providing disruptive, transformational technology to increase physician satisfaction and productivity as well as improve the consumer experience."

Claims data, risk stratification, and other vendor data aggregated into MEDITECH Web EHR will improve care and support value-based reimbursement models

MEDITECH, a leading Enterprise Health Record (EHR) vendor, is pleased to announce a collaboration with Arcadia Healthcare Solutions to integrate aggregated data into MEDITECH's Web EHR and Analytics solution for improved Population Health Management. This collaboration is a major step forward in the blend of MEDITECH's enterprise clinical database, which spans across the healthcare continuum, with claims data, other-vendor EHR data, and additional Arcadia-derived elements.

MEDITECH chose Arcadia based on its leadership position as a population health management technology company serving provider groups, hospital systems, and health plans across the country. Arcadia has extensive experience aggregating data from over 40 EHR vendors and various claims databases, giving providers a comprehensive picture of patient care delivered in and out of the network. Through its sophisticated approach to driving the quality necessary to earn provider trust, data from Arcadia will help MEDITECH customers improve care delivery and financial viability as the shift to value-based reimbursement becomes a reality.

Arcadia-supplied data elements will be sophisticatedly embedded into care delivery workflows within the MEDITECH Web EHR to actively improve care by arming clinicians with the complete picture of patient risk and utilization, a level of integration not commonly seen within the industry. These data elements will also provide powerful analytic insights to understand the construct and risk stratification of the patient population, utilization of resources, costs, and related impact on achieving quality outcomes. This will translate into more effective decisions at the point of care and a greater capability to proactively manage disease and promote wellness.

"This collaboration with Arcadia Healthcare Solutions will strengthen MEDITECH's Population Health offering through the inclusion of data such as risk scores and gaps in care, empowering our customers to better understand their populations, while also providing tightly integrated care management workflows to translate that understanding into action," MEDITECH Executive Vice President Hoda Sayed-Friel said. "By working with Arcadia to incorporate this robust data set within the MEDITECH EHR, we are positioning our customers well for the healthcare paradigm shift underway."

"As healthcare systems take on risk-based contracts, they need visibility into care provided across complex networks," said Arcadia Chief Executive Officer Sean Carroll. "Arcadia delivers high-quality aggregated data to support care management and analytics within the MEDITECH platform, giving healthcare organizations the tools they need to succeed under risk. By selecting Arcadia, MEDITECH will be able to provide its customers the ability to push actionable data in the EHR at the point of care, accelerating performance under risk."

MEDITECH and Arcadia are excited to work together in building the framework of this solution. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months about the collaboration. Also, learn more about how your organization can get proactive about Population Health with MEDITECH.

Be the first to see how MEDITECH is driving market innovation through customer successes at HIMSS18 Booth #1360.

Entering into 2018, MEDITECH proudly reflects on the success the company and its customers have had over the past year, the momentum our Web Enterprise Health Record (EHR) has brought to the industry, and the company's passion to continue to push the boundaries of what an EHR experience should be.

MEDITECH customers share their favorite features of MEDITECH's Web EHR

The market is openly expressing exasperation with technology and clamors for a more contemporary solution. The industry continues to witness key factors driving EHR decisions —  such as physician burnout, loss of provider productivity, and unsatisfactory patient experience. MEDITECH is committed to providing a better user experience while also delivering more sophisticated capabilities and unparalleled integration across the continuum, accompanied by a sustainable cost model.

The MEDITECH Web EHR is gaining momentum and represents a major pivot for the company and the industry as a whole. In 2017, 58 customers went LIVE with the MEDITECH Web EHR across diverse specialties. MEDITECH created the industry's first post-Meaningful Use EHR — built for today's market and customer — and its customers are leading the digital transformation of today and beyond.

A Strong Year of Sales and Go LIVEs
In 2017, MEDITECH signed 92 healthcare organizations to implement the state-of-the-art Web EHR — 47 of the healthcare organizations represent net new customers to the company. Some of our most notable signings were Steward Health Care SystemAppalachian Regional HealthcareOnslow Memorial Hospital and Southlake Regional Health Centre.

Other notable customer achievements in 2017 include:

  • MEDITECH Customers Demonstrate Excellence with Clinical and Quality Awards. Eight MEDITECH customers earned a double 5-star rating from both the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) and the Overall Hospital Quality Star rating. Additionally, 74 MEDITECH customers were named to Hospitals and Health Networks' (H&HN) annual Most Wired list.
  • Maryland Hospitals Reach HIMSS Stage 7 with MEDITECH. Frederick Memorial Hospital and Union Hospital of Cecil County were the first MEDITECH customers in Maryland to reach Stage 7 on the HIMSS Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM), a testament to the successful optimization of MEDITECH's EHR to maximize clinical workflow and improve patient outcomes.
  • Colquitt Regional Medical Center Recognizing Benefits of Integrated Web EHR. Clinicians and leadership at Colquitt Regional Medical Center are realizing care efficiencies and streamlined processes with MEDITECH, and have announced their decision to complete the full suite of the Web EHR by implementing Web Ambulatory in 2018.
  • Physicians and Patients Impressed with Web EHR at Firelands. Physicians at Firelands Regional Medical Center in Ohio cited how mobility, intuitiveness, and flexibility of the MEDITECH Web EHR has significantly improved care quality and patient engagement.

Global Impact
MEDITECH has a long history of shaping healthcare around the globe. Here are some recent examples of the company's strong international footprint:

  • Humber River Hospital Signs for Web EHR. In addition to moving to the Web EHR, the Canadian customer is harnessing the real-time data within the MEDITECH EHR to power its Command Centre — the first of its kind in Canada and only the second such facility in the world.
  • Recognition in Best of Canada Report. MEDITECH was recognized as a healthcare innovator in the Best of Canada: The 150th Anniversary Report. The report — which focuses on companies breaking new ground in healthcare by way of research, medical devices, or software tools — spotlighted MEDITECH for its web-based EHR.
  • Partnerships in Canada Accelerate Adoption of MEDITECH's Web EHR. The SHINE and CHAMP initiatives were formed to integrate their Health Information Systems (HIS) and accelerate the adoption of MEDITECH's Web EHR.
  • MEDITECH Delivers Real Results to Southern Africa Healthcare. Hospitals and clinics across the entire country of Botswana are leveraging MEDITECH's EHR to maintain longitudinal health records for citizens and improve care processes in the fight against HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis.
  • Global Digital Exemplar Customers Leading UK's Healthcare Revolution. The NHS named MEDITECH customers City Hospitals Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust and Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust as Global Digital Exemplars for delivering exceptional and efficient care through the world-class use of digital technology, both within and beyond their organization boundary.

Driving Marketing Innovation
MEDITECH continues to pave a bold path with leading-edge innovations. Here are some exciting initiatives the company unveiled this past year:

  • MEDITECH as a Service (MaaS). This private, cloud-based EHR solution, obtained through a monthly subscription, allows healthcare organizations to quickly procure a cost-effective, modern EHR system with simplified contracting.
  • CommonWell Health Alliance. MEDITECH announced the company will offer CommonWell interoperability services in early 2018. By leveraging its work with the Argonaut Project, MEDITECH will be among the first members in the Alliance to deploy the Argonaut Project's FHIR specifications to customers.
  • MHealth. MEDITECH's mobile app provides patients direct, streamlined access to their portal, available in the Apple Store and Google Play.

"Thank you to our customers who inspire us everyday to be the best at what we do; our staff for delivering the legendary customer experience we are known for; our critics for keeping us honest; and our partners for having our backs," said MEDITECH Executive Vice President, Helen Waters. "Also, thank you to our physicians, nurses, and pharmacists who, with MEDITECH, are driving a transformational user experience to serve the new healthcare paradigm."

MEDITECH continued to build strong relationships with customers, signing 92 healthcare organizations to implement state-of-the-art Web EHR in 2017. Come see MEDITECH at HIMSS Booth #1360 and hear why the industry is excited about the first fully Web-based EHR.

The buzz surrounding MEDITECH and the company's intuitive Web Enterprise Health Record (EHR) showed no signs of slowing down as 2017 came to a close. Continuing on the powerful path for high-quality care and positive patient outcomes, MEDITECH signed 92 healthcare organizations, 47 of which were new customers, to implement the Web EHR.

"MEDITECH had a fantastic 2017 -- we showed tremendous growth in the fourth quarter, and we see this momentum carrying over into 2018," Helen Waters, executive vice president at MEDITECH, said. "Customer satisfaction remained a top priority, which is evident by our strong bookings and competitive wins. Our overall growth validates our passionate new vision for healthcare, and I'm confident MEDITECH will continue to lead the way for a bright and successful 2018."

The relationship longevity and brand loyalty between MEDITECH and its customers is a positive indication of the efficiency and aptitude of the product. Some of MEDITECH's Web EHR signings from Q4 2017 include:

St. Luke's Medical (Duluth, Minn.)
A MEDITECH customer since 2002, St. Luke's Health Care System will be implementing MEDITECH's clinically-integrated EHR across its two hospitals and 44 clinics for greater patient care coordination and outcomes in 2018.

"We've had a great relationship with MEDITECH through the years. It's a cultural fit for us — we appreciate and understand how the system works and how to communicate with MEDITECH staff and their willingness to ensure their software allows us to provide excellent patient care," Director of Information Technology at St. Luke's, Clark Averill said. "MEDITECH has a great methodology for identifying challenges and addressing challenges — we know we can count on them."

Major Health Partners (Shelbyville, Ind.)
Indiana-based healthcare provider Major Health Partners (MHP) will extend their 22-year partnership with MEDITECH by implementing the state-of-the-art Web EHR. MHP looks to continue providing high-quality care to central and southeastern Indiana in tandem with MEDITECH's Web EHR.

"We are thrilled to strengthen our partnership with MEDITECH and provide our clinicians with a mobile, contemporary Web EHR that embodies true integration," said Major Health Partners' CIO, Carol Huesman. "Having a solution that enables care teams to access their patient's information from anywhere in the healthcare continuum positions Major Health Partners to drive healthy outcomes for the communities we serve."

McAlester Regional Health Center (McAlester, Okla.)
A MEDITECH customer since 1998, McAlester Regional Health Center (MRHC) is dedicated to providing comprehensive regional healthcare to residents of southeastern Oklahoma. The health center enrolled in the MEDITECH Web EHR for a more streamlined, user-friendly system.

"We wanted a fully integrated solution that would provide our patients their information faster, and a more complete medical record across southeastern Oklahoma," Jason Bray, CIO of MRHC, said. "This will also directly impact and improve physician, staff, and most importantly, our patient satisfaction."

Citizens Memorial Health (Bolivar, Mo.)
Recognized for its innovative efforts associated with its patient electronic medical record system (EHR), Citizens Memorial Health (CMH) upgraded to MEDITECH's Web Ambulatory EHR in an effort to continue providing exceptional care to eight counties in southwest Missouri. CMH is a Level III Trauma Center consisting of 32 primary and specialty physician clinics, and seven long-term care facilities, and other ancillary services.

"The MEDITECH EHR has been a big success for CMH and has allowed our organization to develop and grow to provide even more services to our community," said Denni McColm, CIO of CMH. "Now it is a natural next step for us to move to MEDITECH's latest and greatest version. Our providers and nurses are excited about the new user interface, new features and workflows and the best practices that we will be implementing.

Lane Regional Medical Center (Zachary, La.)
Lane Regional Medical Center (LRMC) chose MEDITECH's interoperable Web EHR for its modern user interface and accessibility. Dedicated to providing exceptional healthcare services in the region, LRMC is the primary healthcare resource for more than 200,000 patients throughout Zachary and the surrounding areas.

"MEDITECH has always worked with us and gone out of their way to help us achieve our goals as a healthcare organization," said Paul Murphy, CIO of LRMC. "That is the primary reason why we consider them more than a vendor - we consider them a trusted partner."

Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre (Ottawa, Ont.)
Combining specialized mentalhealthcare, advocacy, and education to transform the lives of patients with mental illness, The Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre (The Royal) partnered up with Ontario Shores and Waypoint Centre to create a MEDITECH "mental health hub" to collectively focus on Behavioral Health.

"We're excited to be partnering with Ontario to set up this "hub," said Cal Crocker, executive vice president and chief financial officer at The Royal. "The development of mental health standards are going to be really important and beneficial to our patients, and the whole concept of having a much larger database for research is going to be advantageous going forward."

MEDITECH delivers a web-based EHR for the new healthcare paradigm

WESTWOOD, Mass., Feb. 27, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- MEDITECH, a leading Enterprise Health Record (EHR) vendor, is formally announcing its next-generation platform, MEDITECH Expanse. The web-based platform marks a major step in the company's mission of empowering healthcare organizations to extend their reach and connect patient care across the continuum.

Hear from our Executive Vice President, Helen Waters, to learn more about the company's decision to formally announce its web-based EHR as MEDITECH Expanse

Designed for the post-Meaningful Use era, Expanse helps providers to see healthcare through a new lens. The web-based EHR navigates healthcare's wide-open, virtual landscape with clarity and confidence, spanning every care setting, and providing a full view of the patient's story. Expanse breaks down the walls erected by 'desktop medicine,' and presents users with an open, intuitive workspace that prioritizes user satisfaction and productivity. With less time spent on their EHR, physicians can look forward to having more time and energy to focus on patients.

"With Expanse, we identified the need for an EHR for the post-Meaningful Use healthcare paradigm," said Howard Messing, MEDITECH President & CEO. "Our clinicians deserve an open, dynamic workspace that allows them to connect care the way that works best for them and their patients. We don't believe this is something that should be exclusive, or come at an exorbitant cost. This is the future. This is the freedom and usability that everyone in healthcare should be accustomed to."
